The story of how the piano duo Genova & Dimitrov came into being sounds like a fairy tale:
«Shortly before we left for Korea for a piano competition, it turned out that we had two grand pianos but only one room for practicing at the Hanover Music Academy. So we spontaneously decided to practice a Chopin Etude synchronously. It was like we had wings!” Genova & Dimitrov recall.

Only a few months later, at the end of 1995, the two young musicians made an incomparable start as a piano duo and in the two following years they managed to win the four major international piano duo competitions in Munich (ARD), Miami (Dranoff), Tokyo and Caltanissetta (Bellini ) to win.

Since then, Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov have been considered one of the world’s most sought-after piano duos. They were celebrated by audiences and press alike on the most important concert and festival stages in several dozen countries on all continents, such as in the Library of Congress and in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, at the Rheingau Music Festival, at the Ludwigsburg and Schwetzinger Festivals, in the City Hall of Cape Town, in the Herkulessaal in Munich, in the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, at the Music Festival in Gstaad and the MDR Music Summer, in the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, in the Cologne Philharmonic and at the European Music Weeks in Passau, as well as at the La Roque d’Antheron Piano Festival, the Al Bustan Music Festival in Beirut, in the Casals Hall in Tokyo,

Conducted by conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Eiji Oue, Ari Rasilainen, Hannu Lintu, Stefan Blunier, Yuri Bashmet, John Carewe, Emil Tabakov, Alun Francis, Ulf Schirmer, Woiciech Rajski, Yordan Kamdzhalov, Robin Gritton, Radoslaw Szulc, Alexander Kalajdzic , Gabriel Feltz, Alexander Rudin, Andreas Herrmann and Johannes Schlaefli played Genova & Dimitrov with the world’s leading orchestras and choirs.

Genova & Dimitrov have been leading the piano duo class in Hanover since 2009, at the music academy where they completed their postgraduate studies with Vladimir Krainev. They are regular jurors at major international competitions such as the ARD Music Competition in Munich and have been appointed Artistic Directors of the Dranoff Piano Duo Competition in Miami. The artists give master classes all over the world, both for piano solo and for piano duo.

They have also taken part in numerous international television and radio productions. The documentary «Etude for Two Pianos» produced and broadcast by the Bulgarian national television BNT on the occasion of the 20th anniversary enjoys great interest worldwide.

Genova & Dimitrov can now look back on an impressive discography: 18 CDs by the duo were released on the labels cpo» and «Gega New» and always received excellent reviews and awards from the international specialist media. In addition to a large number of world premiere recordings, such as the concerto by Victor Babin or all the piano duo works by Dimitri Shostakovich, Johann Christian Bach, Muzio Clementi and Pantcho Vladigerov, the recordings of the duo with orchestra also caused a sensation, including the concertos by Carl Czerny , Max Bruch, Bohuslav Martinu, Alfred Schnittke, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, Robert Casadesus, Felix Mendelssohn, and Bela Bartok. The albums with works by Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein (“America for Two”), Ravel (“Favourite Flavors”), Arensky (“Five Suites for 2 Pianos”) and Liszt (“Works for 2 Pianos”) are very popular in the music world.

In 2017 the artists were awarded the ECHO KLASSIK prize for their CD “Bartok and Babin • Concertos for Two Pianos” and the CHOC DE CLASSICA for “Amy Beach • Complete Works for Piano Duo”. Several of the duo’s albums have also been nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award
and for the OPUS KLASSIK .

The world premiere «Sergei Rachmaninoff • Complete works for piano duo» with almost 150 minutes of music for 2 pianos and 1 piano for 4 hands ( cpo ) reached number 1 in the charts and was named “Easter for four hands” by the FAZ, among others. celebrated and crowned “Star of the Month” by FONO FORUM.
